Capital Bond Improvement Projects
Delivering on a Promise to Voters:
See what we’ve accomplished during the first five years of the KCLS Capital Improvement Plan!
Construction work is currently underway at many KCLS libraries, thanks to
the $172 million capital bond strongly supported by residents in September
2004. The KCLS
Capital Improvement Plan(CIP) was developed through extensive community
outreach, involvement and discussion prior to the election and includes enhancements
for all 45 KCLS libraries to meet community needs during the next decade.
New replacement libraries are being built in some communities, while other libraries are being renovated or expanded. Some community libraries will experience temporary Modified Services During Library Construction.
Prudent financial management will optimize funding for all projects in the Capital Improvement Plan. Although rising construction costs necessitated modifications to some library improvement projects in the past few years, the construction environment is now favorable for completing the remainder of projects as originally intended. KCLS staff and the Board proactively developed Strategic Planning Guidelines to help guide decisions for each project.
