Breaking Ground on the New Duvall Library!
Even the pouring rain didn’t keep the residents of Duvall away from the site of their new library for the groundbreaking event! More than 200 people gathered on the afternoon of July 14 to celebrate the start of construction. As people gathered, the Budget Funeral Band entertained the crowd with songs. Bill Ptacek then welcomed the crowd to the groundbreaking, which celebrates the start of construction for the new 8,000 square foot library. KCLS Board of Trustee Rob Spitzer said the new library represents a balance between the rural lifestyle of Duvall and access to the world through books and computers. “Thank you for the foresight with passing the bond in 2004,” Spitzer said. Will Ibershof, Duvall Mayor, talked about the importance of the partnership between the city of Duvall and KCLS. “Duvall loves the partnership with KCLS, which we have valued during the years,” Ibershof said. “Thank you for making this come to fruition.” Kathy Lambert, King County Council member, said the new library will be a gateway to the community and also the gateway to intellectual endeavors. She presented a book to Ptacek, to include in the new library’s collection. “I love libraries and I love reading. This is a huge part of our culture, our community, of being together,” Lambert said. Project architect Ray Johnston spoke about the new building, saying the design will include recycled materials and barn wood. The new library will be located on a portion of surplus property previously owned by the Duvall Church, on Main Street. “This is the perfect place for the library, right in the middle of the community,” Johnston said. |
