Use your skills in math, science, English, social studies, study methods and more! Applications are accepted for all Study Zone locations throughout the school year. New tutor orientations are held every three to four weeks from September through June. The program is closed during all major holidays and school vacations.
WHAT DO STUDY ZONE TUTORS DO?
Study Zone tutors provide help in all subject areas up to the 6th grade level and also specialize in one or two subjects up to the college-prep level. Each tutor works with 1-5 students in a group setting.
WHO CAN BE A STUDY ZONE LIBRARY TUTOR?
Most Study Zone tutors are professional and retired adults. Applicants who are still in high school should be at least 16 years old and a junior or senior, and will need to include a teacher or school representative on the application as an academic reference.
Time Commitment: The volunteer commitment is two hours, one day per week for an academic semester (September-January, February-June or the July-August summer session).
Library Tutoring Schedule: Library Study Zone sessions take place during afternoon and evening hours (3-8pm), Sunday through Thursday.
Community Service Credit: Community service credit is available and tutors can volunteer up to 4 hours per week with the option of adding additional hours after completing their first semester as a volunteer. The volunteer tutoring opportunity is not able to support large numbers of volunteer hours in a short time.
WHO CAN BE A STUDY ZONE ONLINE TUTOR?
The virtual Study Zone Online program provides help for students at libraries where live tutors may not be available. Volunteers interested in tutoring online must be at least 21 years old to apply for this position and comfortable working with computers and an online environment. Through our Brainfuse classroom, tutors can connect with their students from any computer with internet access. Volunteers can work from home or the office, even while traveling.
Time Commitment: Online Study Zone volunteers commit to three hours a week for one semester (September-January or February-June).
Online Tutoring Schedule: Sunday 1:00-3:30pm or 3:30-5:00 pm and Monday through Thursday 3:00-5:30 pm or 5:30-8:00 pm.
Community Service Credit: Community service credit is available and tutors can volunteer up to 5 hours per week with the option of adding additional hours after completing their first semester as a volunteer. The volunteer tutoring opportunity is not able to support large numbers of volunteer hours in a short time.

Study Zone tutors must be able to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check. We are unable to accept applicants with any form of assault, abuse or theft convictions for the Study Zone program.
